The Nissan Micra Cup in action this weekend at Circuit Mont-Tremblant

- Championship leader and Novice driver Marco Signoretti will attempt to earn his first series victory in Quebec at the fifth and sixth races of 2019 -

This weekend, the Nissan Micra Cup will present its fifth and sixth  races of the 2019 season and the first rounds of the year in Quebec. The series drivers and teams will find themselves back at the popular Circuit Mont-Tremblant, located in the heart of the Laurentians region.

Circuit Mont-Tremblant, which has hosted many legendary drivers over the years including Jacky Ickx in Formula 1, Mario Andretti in IndyCar, and Jackie Stewart in the Can-Am series, is always a good challenge for the Nissan Micra Cup drivers. Contested in identical, practically-stock Nissan Micra S cars, racers will no doubt provide a show for fans throughout the weekend, competing in two 40-minute races as part of the 2019 edition of the Summer Classic.

Young Ontarian driver Marco Signoretti, PayPal / Motorsports In Action team member, is currently sitting at the top of the overall standings with 142 points.  Although Signoretti is new this year in closed cars competitions, he is not unfamiliar with the Circuit Mont-Tremblant complex due to his background experience in karting. His challenge will be to get to know the specifics and particularities of the 4.26 km track and its 13 turns.

Signoretti is looking for his first victory of the season this weekend, with the hopes of increasing his lead in the championship as he’s currently standing at only two points ahead of Quebecer Kevin King (with 140 points). King won the two races held last month at Calabogie Motorsports Park and he knows Circuit Mont-Tremblant like the back of his hand. Along with three-time champion Olivier Bédard (third in standings with 101 points), who won the first two races of the season, King and Bédard are among the top contenders for this weekend’s victories.

Valérie Limoges, who has competed in every Nissan Micra Cup race since it’s inception in May 2015, is fourth in the championship with 94 points. Always amongst the leaders, she will also be one to watch this weekend, along with the series’ Senior Class leader, Quebecer Frédéric Bernier; and Ontarians Taylor Near (Marco Signoretti’s PayPal / Motorports In Action teammate) and Austin Riley.  Riley, a young driver with autism, earned his first-ever podium of the series at the last race in Calabogie. He will be looking to repeat his performance on the circuit of Mont-Tremblant, which he knows very well after three seasons competing in the Nissan Micra Cup.

The two races scheduled as part of the Summer Classic will not be the only activities presented by the Nissan Micra Cup team this weekend. Parades for Canadian Nissan Micra owners are organized during lunch breaks on Saturday and Sunday, bringing together several dozen Nissan Micra owners and allowing them to experience driving on the track in their own vehicle.

The Summer Classic weekend will also be an opportunity for fans to witness the popular 100% electric Nissan LEAF NISMO RC for the first time in action on a Quebec track.

Equipped with two electric motors situated on opposite ends of the chassis, the LEAF NISMO RC produces a combined 322 horsepower (161 each) and 472 pound-feet of instant torque to the wheels. The new 2019 Nissan LEAF’s transmission technology includes a high capacity lithium-ion battery and battery packs.

The LEAF NISMO RC will be used as the official Nissan Micra Cup pace car and will therefore take to the track during the two races’ formation laps.

For those unable to attend or looking for more information on the series, fans can follow along on July 27 and 28 with interviews and updates on the Nissan Micra Cup Facebook page, as well as the Micra Cup TV YouTube channel. Other regular updates will be available on the Nissan Micra Cup’s official Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts in both English and French.
