Nissan Sentra Cup announces its 2022 race schedule

NEWS - Sentra Cup Nissan
- A season made of 6 events (including the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada)  for a total of 12 rounds held in Ontario and Québec -

Nissan Canada, and the organizers of the Nissan Sentra Cup, revealed today the 2022 race schedule composed of six events with two races each weekend. There will be two race weekends held in Ontario and four in Québec, including Round 2 at the prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada in Montréal.

The Nissan Sentra Cup debuted last year on Canadian road courses with no less than 36 competitors, which made the Cup an immediate success among the racers and the fans. "I'm thrilled that after only one season on Canadian tracks, the Nissan Sentra Cup gained so much popularity last year," said Steve Milette, President of Nissan Canada. "The 2022 season is shaping up to be even more exciting with an outstanding schedule for our drivers and their teams, as well as for fans of the series and our brand," he added.

The season will kick off in Ontario from May 20 to 22 at the famous Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Home to 8 Canadian Grand Prix during the ‘60s and 70s, the fast and challenging road course will host the two inaugural Nissan Sentra Cup races of 2022 as part of the Victoria Day Weekend SpeedFest.

Four weeks later, the series' competitors will race at the country's biggest annual sporting event, the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada. Nissan Sentra Cup drivers will compete in two races on Montréal's Gilles Villeneuve Circuit. The first race will take place on Saturday June 18, and the second one on Sunday June 19, shortly before the start of the F1 race. Free practice and qualifying will be held Friday June 17.

Since the prestigious event could not be held in 2020 and 2021 because of government restrictions due to the pandemic, its return to the calendar for 2022 is eagerly awaited by all, and the organizers expect a full house in June.

The third event of the season will be held at Circuit Mont-Tremblant as part of the Summer Classic, July 22 to 24. Two weeks later, the Sentra Cup will be part of the traditional Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, August 5, 6 and 7. The Nissan Sentra Cup certainly is one of the most popular races of the event.

The Nissan Sentra Cup will return to Ontario at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Labour Day weekend, September 2 to 4. This event is always a welcome addition to any racing fan's schedule as it takes place during a long holiday weekend.

The 2022 season will conclude with the Fall Classic at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, September 23 to 25. Last year, the overall title, as well as the Rookie of the Year and Micra class titles were decided at this final event which provided the fans with exciting racing.

"I am very happy with this schedule that will allow our series, its drivers and its fans to perform on the most beautiful road courses in Canada," said Jacques Deshaies, of JD Promotion & Competition, the series’ promoter. "Our return to the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, but also to Trois-Rivières and the outstanding circuits of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Circuit Mont-Tremblant is truly the best we can offer. I am also expecting an even greater number of drivers out on the track, and I am already looking forward to the beginning of the season in May," Deshaies concludes.

The full entry list for 2022 will be published in the spring. For more information on the Nissan Sentra Cup, visit sentracup.com and the series' social media channels. To relive the 2021 season's events, visit the Nissan Sentra Cup YouTube channel.
