Bruno Spengler to Race in the Nissan Sentra Cup for the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières!

Since its inception in 2015, the Nissan Sentra Cup has built a reputation for attracting well-known Canadian drivers and celebrity participants. The series will once again bring new energy to the 55th edition of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, scheduled for August 8 to 10.
Bruno Spengler will be among the twenty or so drivers expected to take part in the three Nissan Sentra Cup races during the event. The Canadian driver, who claimed the 2012 title in the globally renowned DTM series, will be making his very first appearance at GP3R, as well as his debut in the Nissan Sentra Cup. He will be behind the wheel of car #007, entered by JD Promotion & Competition, the team run by series promoter Jacques Deshaies.
Born on August 23, 1983, in Schiltigheim, Alsace (France), Spengler is a Canadian citizen who grew up in Quebec before returning to Europe to pursue a karting career that saw him win the French championship in 2000 and finish 7th in the World Championship. He then came back to North America to compete in – and win in his debut season – the Formula Renault Fran-Am championship. Bruno later returned to Europe to continue his international career in Formula 3 before stepping into the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) series in 2005, widely regarded as the world's top touring car championship.
Spengler made history by becoming the first – and to date, only – North American champion in DTM, clinching the title in 2012. His DTM record also includes two runner-up finishes, 16 wins, 51 podiums, and 18 pole positions. He also holds the record for the most victories on the streets of Nuremberg's Norisring circuit.
In recent seasons, he has shifted focus to endurance racing, competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a prototype, winning the 6 Hours of Road Atlanta (IMSA) and finishing second in both the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring in GT3-class cars. In 2023, he also captured the Italian GT3 Championship. Bruno currently serves as an official driver and ambassador for Bugatti.
"I'm super happy to be racing in Quebec again after all these years. It's a huge pleasure, especially to take part in the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, which has such a rich history. A huge thank you to Jacques Deshaies and JD Promotion & Compétition for the opportunity to come and compete at GP3R in the Nissan Sentra Cup. I really can't wait to be there and hopefully see some familiar faces I haven't seen in a very long time," said Bruno Spengler.
The Nissan Sentra Cup has always embraced a mix of high-profile drivers and celebrities alongside series regulars and rookies. From the very first season – back when it was still the Micra Cup – notable drivers such as Richard Spénard and Kevin Lacroix have starred in the field, as have public figures like three-time figure skating world champion Elvis Stojko, former NHL player Marc-André Bergeron, and more recently, actor Michel Barrette and British racer Freddie Hunt, son of legendary F1 champion James Hunt.
"The Nissan Sentra Cup has always aimed to stand out by welcoming popular drivers and personalities," explains Jacques Deshaies, the series promoter. "But we also want these drivers to enjoy themselves in our series. That's what led me to reach out to Bruno Spengler, one of Canada's great racing talents. His career is nothing short of remarkable, and I'm thrilled that he accepted the invitation to race in Trois-Rivières at the wheel of a JD Promotion & Compétition Sentra."
Despite his experience, Bruno Spengler has never raced at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, nor has he competed in a front-wheel-drive car. His appearance will therefore mark a double first in his illustrious racing career.
