Bruno Spengler, Michel Barrette, Benoît Gagnon, and an American driver to compete in the Nissan Sentra Cup at GP3R!
The 55th edition of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R) takes place this weekend – Friday, August 8 to Sunday, August 10 – with tens of thousands of spectators expected. The Nissan Sentra Cup, one of the event’s main series, is set to attract plenty of attention!
One of the main attractions will be the appearance of internationally renowned Canadian driver Bruno Spengler, a DTM champion (one of Europe’s most prestigious racing series) and winner of numerous Formula Renault and GT races. Spengler will make his debut at both GP3R and the Nissan Sentra Cup, driving car No. 007. He’ll be joined by Andrew Burke, an American racer competing outside U.S. borders for the first time.
Popular comedian and automotive enthusiast Michel Barrette, known for his past involvement in the Micra Cup, will be driving a Sentra for the first time. He’ll be competing in Sunday’s race, while Benoît Gagnon, TV host and media personality, will be behind the wheel of Nissan Sentra No. 20 in Friday and Saturday’s races. This marks Gagnon’s return to the series. His last appearance was at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix.
Despite an event filled with special appearances, regular series stars will not be overshadowed. The championship battle between Simon Vincent (current points leader), Valérie Limoges (two-time champion, 2022 and 2024), and Nicolas Barrette (2024 runner-up) is heating up this season. After seven rounds, nothing is settled yet. Also noteworthy is Nicolas Lévesque, who claimed his first series victory in Nova Scotia this past June and will be racing in front of his home crowd in Trois-Rivières.
Now in its 11th season, (including the Micra Cup from 2015 to 2020), the Nissan Sentra Cup continues to innovate. The 2025 edition of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières marks the first time in series history a Quebec event will feature three races.
A total of 18 drivers (in 17 cars) are entered. On Friday, from 2:30 to 2:50 p.m., the drivers will compete in the sole qualifying session, which will determine the starting grids for Races 1 and 2. Each driver’s best lap time will set the grid for Race 1, scheduled Friday from 6:40 to 7:20 p.m., while their second-best lap time will set the grid for Race 2, which will be held Saturday from 11:10 to 11:50 a.m. Finally, Race 3 will take place Sunday starting at 10:20 a.m., with the starting order based on each driver’s fastest lap in Race 2. Each race will be 40 minutes long, delivering a full two hours of intense racing action for the fans.
The paddock will be open to all general admission ticket holders. The Nissan Sentra Cup drivers and their teams are always happy to share their passion with the spectators.
