Three Drivers Battling for the 2025 Nissan Sentra Cup Title in the Finale!
After ten thrilling races, the long-awaited moment has arrived: Rounds 11 and 12 of the Nissan Sentra Cup will determine the 2025 season champion this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), located in Bowmanville, northeast of Toronto. Simon Vincent, current championship leader, two-time champion Valérie Limoges, and Nicolas Barrette are the three drivers still in contention for the crown.
Vincent, who was the unofficial mid-season champion and held a comfortable lead before the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières earlier this month, saw Valérie Limoges close the gap during the three GP3R races. Now, only 21 points separate the two rivals. That margin may seem significant, but with 50 points awarded to each race winner — not including pole position and fastest lap bonuses — Vincent must at least secure one second and one third place if Limoges sweeps both races with additional bonus points.
Chasing a historic achievement never accomplished in North American motorsport — winning both a national circuit racing championship and the Canadian Rally Championship in the same year — Vincent already claimed victory in the opening CTMP round back in May. Limoges, however, also won there in Race 2, meaning both drivers know the track well and have already tasted success on the fast Ontario circuit. CTMP, which once hosted eight Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada, remains a favorite among fans who attend in large numbers. For Limoges, a third title — and second consecutive — would allow her to tie Olivier Bédard’s record of three championships (Micra Cup titles in 2015, 2017, and 2018).
The third title contender is Nicolas Barrette. Like Vincent and Limoges, he has two wins this season, but unlike them, his destiny is not in his own hands. He must rely on his rivals’ misfortune to claim a first career championship. Several outcomes remain possible, but if Vincent finishes inside the Top 8 in both races, Barrette will be mathematically eliminated, even if he were to win both. For Limoges, two Top 5 finishes would also be enough to stay ahead of Barrette in the final standings.
While fans of the title contenders track every point throughout the weekend, all the spectators can enjoy the excitement of the Nissan Sentra Cup races and cheer for other drivers as well. Nicolas Lévesque is seeking his first CTMP victory, as are Raphaël St-Pierre, rookie Marc-Antoine D’Amour, and Steve Poulin (Nissan dealer and racer from Thetford Mines). These three are currently completing the championship Top 7.
The event, known as the Labour Day Weekend Sprints, will also feature a strong continental flavor, headlined by the popular American series Trans Am, Formula Regional Americas, and US F4 Championship, along with several Canadian series. For the Nissan Sentra Cup competitors, the weekend begins with a single free practice session Friday morning from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m., followed by qualifying from 2:25 to 2:55 p.m. Race 1 takes place Saturday from 10:25 to 11:05 a.m., while the grand season finale will be held on Sunday, August 31, starting at 12:25 p.m., once again over a 40-minute distance.
